They provide friendship, conversation, and support to older people aged 55 and over. Whatever the day or time, you can pick up the phone and speak to one of our friendly Silver Line team members.

What can they do for you?

• They provide friendship, conversation, and support to older people aged 55 and over. Whatever the day or time, you can pick up the phone and speak to one of our friendly Silver Line team members.

• Give you the chance for someone to listen to your worries and provide you with information and advice of where and how to get help.

• You can talk to someone anytime of the day or night, or when loneliness strikes.

• It’s a bit like having an extended family, someone to talk to when you feel alone and miss that human interaction and a person just to talk to.

• You can talk about whatever you want to talk about, if you are worried or concerned, or just want to hear someone else’s and listening with you conversing with you.

How do they do it?

• They have a free phone line number you can call anytime of the day or night – the number is 0800 4 70 80 90

• Age UK’s Silver Line Helpline team is made up of dedicated staff members and volunteers based across the UK all of whom want to help you by listening.

• Silver Line Helpline is the UK’s only free, confidential, 24-hour helpline providing friendship for older people. It was set up by Dame Esther Rantzen DBE and whose ambassadors include, Dame Judi Dench, Dame Joan Collins and Gloria Hunniford OBE.

What benefits could you experience?

• You will have people who you talk to and share your concerns.

• Sometimes you don’t want to trouble your family so the service is a good way to talk to someone in confidence.

• You will find out that there are people out there who do care for you and want to talk to you.

Bridgit is an online tool that allows people to explore free wellbeing, employment, finance and care advice and events, local and national support services, and training opportunities. People can also build their own ‘self-care plan’. It’s all available any time of day and without registering first.
